Young music star hits the right notes for NE charity

A YOUNG North East music star has raised more than £800 for a local charity that helps some of the region’s most vulnerable people.

Alexandra Bickerton, who is studying voice at the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music, returned to her native North East to give the concert to raise money for the charity Norcare which helps a range of excluded groups including victims of domestic violence and drug abuse.

Miss Bickerton performed at her old school, the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle on July 16 and all ticket proceeds went into a fund for the service users of the charity.

Miss Bickerton has a keen awareness of the difference Norcare can make to the lives of vulnerable people in the North East as her mother is the chief executive of the charity.
She said: “I hear a lot about all the good work Norcare does and the hard work put in by the staff to help the region’s most vulnerable people.  I was really excited to be able to help such a worthwhile cause.

“It was the first solo concert I had given in the North East and I was particularly excited to perform at my old school. We had a good turn-out and raised lots of money for the charity.”

Susan Bickerton, chief executive of Norcare said: “Naturally I was delighted that Alexandra chose to give this concert for Norcare. We are all working hard to raise money for the service user fund to offer them the widest range of opportunities we can and it was great that Alexandra was keen to get involved in this way.

“It was a very proud evening for me both on a personal level and on behalf of Norcare.”

Miss Bickerton sang a full range of song, oratorio and light opera and was accompanied on the piano by Marika Slater who runs piano school Piano Kids.
