NORCARE TAKES TO THE LARGEST STAGE IN THE NORTH EAST
Following its recent £9million refurbishment, Northern Stage has opened its doors to service users, staff and volunteers from Norcare, the region's largest supported housing organisation.
Norcare has teamed up with Northern Stage and over the next month will be working alongside some of the North East's best in drama, dance and music, as they prepare to make their debut performance at the North East's largest producing theatre company.
Stephen Carter, is a service user from Norcare, who has been taking part in the workshops. "I've really enjoyed what we've done so far in the sessions. It's a great way of meeting new people and it's helped improve my confidence," Stephen commented.
Annie Rigby, Resident Director at Northern Stage, explained: "These types of activities are a great way of breaking down barriers and encouraging a wide range of people to access the theatre. Because the sessions aren't scripted participants have ownership of what they are doing. It helps people express their emotions and build their self confidence."
Susan Bickerton, Chief Executive of Norcare, added: "These workshops give service users an opportunity to participate in activities that they would never normally get involved in. At Norcare our aim is to encourage service users to live independently so this is a great way of building their confidence and helping them to meet new people."
