norcare helping people to help themselves

Casus

Casus is a new volunteer bureau set up within Norcare for Norcare service users. The scheme is managed by the Volunteer Coordinator who will locate suitable volunteer placements and support the service user throughout the placement. There will also be educational assessments and training opportunities for each individual service user.

The original idea was put forward as an alternative volunteer project to the volunteer probation schemes when they ended. It was then identified that there was a desperate need for this type of service as there was constant barriers arising when trying to find suitable voluntary agencies to place service users. Also the time taken to conduct the research and network with the agencies was not feasible in the day to day duties of housing support staff. There was a proposal and funding application put together which was a huge success. The beginning of September saw the recruitment of the volunteer coordinator and the start of building a new project.

Most of the work done so far has been to set up the paperwork and procedures and network with relevant agencies. Over the next few weeks the volunteer co-ordinator will visiting all of Norcare's schemes to let staff know more about Casus and how they can get their service users involved.
