North Tyneside & NorthumberlandNorth Tyneside Housing and Addiction Service (NTHAS) Established in partnership with North Tyneside Council in December 2002, this service provides support for up to 20 clients at a time to clients across The client group includes men and women, aged 18 and over, who are in need of housing or support in their own Local Authority accommodation. Referrals are received from Housing Officers with the Local Authority, Social Workers and Drug and Alcohol Support staff in statutory or voluntary organisations. People referred to this service are at risk of losing their accommodation or unable to gain housing due to their addiction problems, either drug or alcohol. They are unable to manage their responsibilities with regard to a tenancy such as payment of rent or utility bills. Many have fallen into disputes with neighbours and have no awareness or understanding of the need to resolve these matters. Clients may have been vulnerable due to their substance misuse being exploited by individuals or groups of other people. This service aims to enable clients to gain or maintain their own secure tenancy. Norcare staff assist and enable clients to obtain alternative accommodation appropriate to their needs or situation and to ensure that clients are able to access all appropriate available addiction support services. The NTHAS service contributes to supporting the clients in maintaining a substance abuse free way of life and successfully completing a programme of support meeting the needs of each service user within a time-frame of six months to one year. For further information telephone: (0191) 229 9126 or (0191) 229 9128 Established in 2003 in partnership with North Tyneside Council and Enterprise 5 Housing Association, this service provides four units of self contained accommodation in two newly built and two refurbished family houses. Each property is fully furnished and equipped with a cooker, fridge-freezer and washing machine. The properties are fitted with security systems to ensure the safety of the clients. The service works with single parents and couples and their children, who have been the victims of actual or threatened violence from neighbours or family members while living at a previous address. Referrals are made by Social Services staff including those at refuges. Clients may be in need of a move to larger accommodation having lived in accommodation too small for their needs. They may also be in need of support to access advice, education and counselling services. Norcare staff work with clients who have previously had no access to or experience of money and tenancy management and as such clients are in need of education about their responsibilities in respect of these matters. The Families fleeing Violence Scheme provides good quality, well maintained safe and secure housing along with a structured planned support service tailored the needs of the family. Staff contribute to the clients ability to maintain their own safety and security, access to other appropriate services, ensuring that clients are in receipt of their full benefit entitlement and are able to manage their income to meet the needs of their family. Clients will complete a programme of support meeting the needs of the family within a time frame of six months. For further information telephone: (0191) 229 9129 Northumberland and Established in 1986 this service comprises of 19 units of self-contained accommodation, all one bedroom flats managed by Norcare in partnership with three Housing Associations. The units, 13 in Blyth and Northumberland, and six in The service works with single men and women, aged 18 and over, who have a history of offending. Referrals from Northumbria Probation Service are assessed and interviewed to measure their need and willingness to participate in the service provided. People are referred to us with backgrounds of drug and alcohol misuse and a wide range of offending behaviour. Each successful applicant will have expressed a wish to deal with their problems and end their offending. All client referrals are homeless and in need of accommodation with support. The service aims to provide good quality, well maintained safe and secure housing with the provision of a structured, planned support service tailored to the individuals needs. These aims contribute to supporting clients in maintaining a crime free way of life and successfully completing a programme of support meeting the needs of each service user within a time-frame of two years or less.
