Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal visited Brims House, Norcare Veterans’ Centre on the afternoon of Wednesday 14th September.

The Norcare Veterans’ Centre was excited to have been chosen as part of the Princess’s visit, and enjoyed the anticipation and excitement of the event.

The centre has been named ‘Brims House’ after Lieutenant General Robin Vaughan Brims, CB, CBE, DSO, DL, a retired British Army Officer.  Lt Gen Brims joined the British Army in 1970 and has since spent an illustrious career serving across the world.  Norcare pay tribute to Robin with this choice of name, after all the fantastic work he does as a member of the Board of Directors at Norcare.

Rod Jones, Norcare’s Chairman said, “It has been a huge honour to welcome the Princess Royal to the Norcare Veterans’ Centre.  We were delighted that we were chosen as part of the official visit to the region, and in doing so we are able to grandly recognise all the tremendous work that Robin Brims and the Board have done for Norcare”.

Susan Bickerton, CEO of Norcare responded, “The Princess’s visit was not only a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the commitment and enthusiasm of Robin, but also that of the staff and clients who are continuing to make the Centre such a huge success".

The Norcare Veterans’ Centre was set up to help some of the hundreds of homeless ex-servicemen and women across the UK.  It offers help to a hidden army of veterans that have slipped through the support net, giving them the chance to return to independent living.

The outreach service provided from the centre gives support to other veterans in the area and helps many veterans every year with various support needs.  Norcare bring in experts from a variety of other organisations to provide the range of specialist support needed to help the veterans.  So far the successes speak for themselves as out of their first nine veterans, three have gained employment, and six have now moved on to live independently.
