How to help

How to Help!

If you are keen to help improve the lives of individuals across the North East then sign up to our Volunteer’s office today – call our Volunteers Officer on 0191 261 2228 or sign up online - click here to open.

What would I do?

  • Befriending – some people can feel isolated, and so the intervention of a volunteer can be extremely beneficial to them.  It might just be popping over for a cup of tea and a chat, or maybe a trip out together.
  • Mentoring – Volunteers can act as positive role models, and can help people to achieve their goals – whatever they may be.
  • Life Skills – Volunteers could help people to develop skills around the home, from cooking to ironing a shirt – the possibilities are endless!
  • Escort and Support – sometimes starting something new is daunting or attending an important meeting is worrying.  Volunteers are able to accompany people until they feel confident enough to go it alone.
  • Practical Tasks – Volunteers can act as an extra pair of hands for tasks such as painting, decorating and gardening.

This doesn’t cover all of the roles a volunteer plays and we are always up for new suggestions!

To one of our clients, having a volunteer could:

  • Build Confidence
  • Enable them to meet new people
  • Learn New Skills
  • Achieve Goals

Volunteering will give you:

  • An up to date reference.  After you have volunteered for a certain period of time a reference will be given.
  • A chance to build confidence.
  • An opportunity to develop skills and work experience that will enhance your CV.  73% of employers would employ a candidate with volunteering experience over one without.
  • A chance to challenge yourself and learn new skills.
  • The satisfaction of knowing you’ve given something back to the community.
  • New friends and positive social ones.

We endeavour to respond to all requests within 72 hours, and you will be required to attend a two and a half day Induction course to complete your application.  The Induction courses are run periodically and you will be notified of the start date.

If you’re keen to join Norcare as a volunteer and help us to improve the lives of individuals across the North East please do give our volunteer officer a call on: 0191 261 2228 or fill out our online application form click here to open.
