Gateshead Substance Misuse Project

This scheme works with clients living in the Gateshead area who have issues with alcohol or drug misuse that impact on their ability to gain and/or maintain a tenancy. Clients must be 16 years or over.  Referrals onto the scheme are made from a range of sources including The Probation Service, local authorities, drug and alcohol teams and also individual applicants.  We work with all clients to develop a support programme lasting between six and 24 months - providing personalised support and advice and helping the client access education, health and wellbeing support, and counselling services.

Gateshead Young People's Project

This scheme works with 13 young people aged 16-25 who are vulnerable and threatened with homelessness. Priority is given to those with a connection to the Gateshead area. The service accesses a number of properties in partnership with NomadE5 Housing Association. Clients are given an introductory tenancy with support which should progress to a secure tenancy after review. Other clients may be in local authority accommodation or in private tenancies. Referrals for this scheme may come from agencies working with young people in a variety of fields or by self-referral from young people themselves. We work with all clients to develop a support programme lasting between six and 24 months - providing personalised support and advice and helping the client access education, health and wellbeing support, and counselling services.

Gateshead Ex-Offenders Tenancy Support

This scheme is for ex offenders and those at risk of offending.
Clients must be 16 years or over. Referrals to this scheme are usually made by The Probation Service or the Criminal Justice System. The scheme is run in partnership with Gateshead Council and The Probation Service and works to secure housing for those clients usually excluded from tenancies due to their convictions.
We work with clients to develop an individually tailored support programme lasting between six and 24 months. This provides personalised support and advice, helping the client access education, health and wellbeing support, and counselling services if appropriate.
The project works closely with staff in The Probation Service to ensure the client engages in support and goes on to complete their programme, fully integrating into mainstream society while remaining outside of the criminal justice system.
